Paulsen Statement on the Nomination of Justice Stras to Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals

Washington, D.C. – Congressman Paulsen (MN-03) released the following statement regarding the decision by Minnesota’s senators not to move forward with Supreme Court Justice David Stras’s hearing for his nomination to the Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals:

“Minnesota Supreme Court Justice David Stras is well-respected, has strong bipartisan support, and the highest rating from the American Bar Association,” said Congressman Paulsen. “I'm disappointed that both Senator Franken and Senator Klobuchar announced they will deny Justice Stras a fair hearing, putting partisanship ahead of an opportunity to put one of Minnesota's strongest legal minds on the Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals.”

Last month, Congressman Paulsen wrote an op-ed in the Star Tribune urging Senators Franken and Klobuchar to move forward with Justice Stras’s hearing, highlighting his impressive legal career and support from across party lines. The op-ed can be read here.

Congressman Paulsen, a champion of small business and advocate of free enterprise, entrepreneurship, and innovation, serves on the House Ways and Means Committee, the bicameral Joint Economic Committee, and is co-chair of the Congressional Medical Technology Caucus.
