Paulsen Statement on USDA Boundary Waters Decision

WASHINGTONCongressman Erik Paulsen (MN-03) today issued the following statement after the U.S. Department of Agriculture announced it would remove a significant roadblock to copper-nickel mining in Minnesota’s Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness:

“This decision threatens the Boundary Waters – Minnesota’s Yellowstone – by ending an ongoing environmental assessment evaluating the threat posed by sulfide mining on the doorstep of America’s most-visited wilderness area,” said Congressman Paulsen. “I call on Secretary Purdue to reconsider this decision and ensure the future of this fragile ecosystem is guided by science.”

UPDATE: Congressman Paulsen has written Secretary Purdue directly to convey his concerns with this decision. The letter to the Secretary can be viewed in full here.
